This artwork was kindly gifted by Jim Innes to Riverhaven Artland. We were thrilled that Jim and Fred accepted our invitation to visit and that they choose the location for this very special artwork.
Bio:
Fred Graham is a Tainui kaumatua of Ngāti Korokī Kahukura descent. He is a world-renowned carver and a warm and inspiring mentor who has generously shared his knowledge and skills with his peers, as well as with emerging artists.
He trained as a Teacher at Ardmore Teachers Training College focusing on Art. It was there that he discovered a passion for Sculpture. Teaching himself to carve in wood and later he began working in steel.
As a highly influential Māori Artist with a long and prestigious career Fred Graham is respected both Nationally and Internationally.
