Visitors often describe the uplifting and soothing environment of Riverhaven Artland, this was not owner and guide Guy Blundell’s original intention but it is easy to understand how this came to be.
After losing his wife Sue over 20 years ago he started planting trees and shaping the land with the idea of creating an arboretum. This was a major part of Guy’s therapy (unbeknown to him at the time) and it is now helping many others improve their own mental health by simply being outdoors.
Guy has no formal training in landscaping but his horticultural knowledge and prowess operating a digger certainly came in handy.
He had a vision early on that most people thought was somewhat unusual but this property was his canvas and he created it.
This land has always been a place for family and friends to connect and now Guy finds joy in sharing this special place with others and allowing them to experience the therapeutic benefits of being among the trees and art and uniting family and friends.
Riverhaven Artland has always been a family affair. Guy’s eldest daughter Katie is a well-respected artist and helped to build Riverhaven Artlands sculpture collection as it became more established.
Grandchildren can often be found helping with planting and Guy’s youngest daughter Sophie now does the administration.
Prior to Guy and Sue Blundell, the property was owned by Guy’s parents John and Helen Blundell who ran it as a dairy farm and then later an Orchard.
